In this program, you’ll explore creative writing through a mix of reading, writing and hands-on practice. You’ll study different literary forms and contexts while developing your own writing skills.
Creative Writing at gives you the opportunity to explore different forms of writing while developing your skills as a writer. You may study fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and other forms of creative writing, giving you the chance to experiment with different styles and find your voice.
In upper-level courses, you’ll take part in writing workshops where you share your work, receive feedback and learn from your classmates. You’ll also read and analyze published works to understand how writers use language, structure, and other techniques to bring their ideas to life.
Along the way, you’ll build skills in communication, editing, collaboration, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. These skills can prepare you for careers in publishing, communications, marketing, education, media and many other fields.

Creative Writing students learn through hands-on workshops where they create and edit original work, share ideas, and receive feedback from classmates and instructors.
Students can explore different genres, participate in writing communities, submit work for awards and competitions, and connect their writing practice with other areas of study.
Dal Arts students can apply for the FASS Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Pilot Program, which offers a one-semester paid work term where you put what you learn in the classroom into practice, build career-ready skills and gain experience in the workplace.
Arts students can take their learning beyond the classroom through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ experiential learning program.

Creative Writing can be combined with another area of study within a BA. Choose a double major or combined Honours pathway with Creative Writing as your secondary subject, or add Creative Writing as a minor.

You can combine Creative Writing with another subject as part of your BA. Choose a 120-credit-hour Double Major or Combined Honours degree, with Creative Writing as your secondary subject. Students from any or King's Faculty can choose this pathway.
Add Creative Writing as a minor to complement your main area of study. You’ll complete courses in Creative Writing while pursuing your primary degree, giving you the opportunity to develop your writing skills alongside another subject.
You can also explore minors in other areas of Arts and Social Sciences or, depending on your degree, add a minor from another faculty such as Science, Computer Science or Management.
