Program options

Professional: This course-based master’s program will enable you to acquire specialized knowledge, enhance critical skills, and advance your career. Learn more about professional master's degrees at Dal.

Project: Complete an in-depth, publishable piece of journalism, with mentorship and support from industry professionals.

January start option

For the January entry, you’ll completeÌý27 credit hoursÌý(with fees reflecting 33 due to continued registration in the project course), including core courses inÌýadvanced reporting, the professional environment, visual storytelling, data journalism, and the business of journalism, along with approved electives to tailor your experience.

All graduate programs at ÆÞÓÑ are collaboratively delivered by a home Faculty and theÌýFaculty of Graduate Studies.

You'll need to meet theÌýFaculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirementsÌýas well as any program-specific admission requirements before you can apply.

Program-specific requirements

This program requires you to meet the following criteria:

Two start dates with different requirements:

  • September entry: four-year undergraduate degree (or equivalent).Ìý
  • January entry: either a journalism undergraduate degree (or equivalent) conferred within the last 10 academic years, or professional journalists without a journalism degree who can demonstrate full-time journalism employment for five of the last seven years (or equivalent ongoing freelance work).

Applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements as set by and ÆÞÓÑ.
