The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD scholarship supports students with an excellent academic record who are engaged in humanities and social sciences research that contributes to the advancement of Canada and society.

Application process

• New two-step application process: all applicants must confirm their eligibility by completing a short questionnaire; once eligibility is confirmed, they will obtain access to the long and detailed questionnaire. The request for eligibility must occur before October 2, 2026.Ìý

• All eligible applicants must also participate in one of our mandatory online information sessions held in the weeks of October 5 and October 12, 2026.

• Applicants are reminded that the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship specifically targets research projects in the Humanities and Social Sciences; all research projects must also be linked to one of the Foundation’sÌý.Ìý

• All applicants must be in either theirÌýfirst or second year of their PhD at the time of application.

• The Foundation is looking for students with outstanding academic records who demonstrate exceptional potential to advance knowledge and address the major challenges facing Canada and the world. Successful candidates stand out through the quality of their research, their academic excellence, as well as their intellectual curiosity, ambition, leadership potential, and desire to create meaningful social impact beyond academia.
